Mudd was a human man who lived through the 23rd century and was known for being a devious con-artist, a smuggler and a swindler. Mudd justifies his actions by claiming that he has been mistreated since the day that he was born and that he deserved to enjoy the rewards of his schemes.
Mudd first interacted with the crew of the USS Enterprise in 2266:
In 2266 Mudd encountered the crew of the USS Enterprise, when he was attempting to traffic three women to a group of lithium miners. Mudd gave the men an illegal drug, which fooled them into thinking that the women that they were purchasing were beautiful. When in reality, they were not the beauties which Mudd made them out to be. He successfully fooled the miners, who married the three women. However, the three women soon escaped and were rescued by the crew of the USS Enterprise.
Mudd was in love with Stella:
Mudd married Stella Grimes, the daughter of a powerful, wealthy arms dealer. While Stella’s father initially opposed the couple’s relationship as he would do anything to please his daughter, he eventually relented and allowed Mudd to marry Stella. However the pair’s marriage was relatively short lived and Mudd soon turned his back on Stella in order to continue pursuing a life of crime and trickery.
The first actor to play Mudd was Roger C. Carmel:
Roger C. Carmel was the first actor to fill the shoes of Harcourt Fenton Mudd. Apart from playing Mudd, Carmel was also well known for playing one of the lead roles in the popular sit com “The Mothers In Law”. Carmel also enjoyed a lengthy career in Hollywood and starred in a long list of films.
Rain Wilson brought the character of Mudd back to life:
Rain Wilson, who rose to fame as a part of The Office’s cast, is the latest actor to step into the shoes of Harcourt Fenton Mudd and plays Mudd in Star Trek Discovery. Just like Carmel’s version of Mudd, Wilson’s version of Mudd was also madly in love with Stella Mudd. In Star Trek Discovery, Mudd chooses to return to his home with Stella, instead of being forcibly imprisoned for his crimes.
Wilson’s version of Mudd is first shown to Star Trek’s audience in a Klingon jail cell, which he shared with Star Fleet Capitan Gabriel Lorcas and Ash Tyler. The latter of whom was a Klingon ruler who had been surgically turned into a human. In order to help the Klingon race win their war against Star Fleet.
