Keeping the workplace clean is important because it makes employees more effective and productive. In addition, it will be easier to work and think in a neat and organized environment. So encourage your employees to do their part in cleaning the office. Here are some ways to do that.
Schedule a general cleaning day at least twice a year
Cleaning at the start of the spring and fall season is not just for homes but also for offices—schedule general cleaning at least two times a year to do a thorough clean-up of the workplace. Spend half of the day on this, and resume the work after that. It can be done if everyone lends a helping hand. It is time to do an inventory of everything in the office and get rid of those that you no longer use or need. Recycle those that can still be recycled by giving them to recycling organizations. Even that old broken car in your company garage that you have been planning to dispatch for a long time must go. Some companies buy scrap cars, so you can still earn from that old vehicle.
Let employees know that they are expected to keep the office clean
Your staff is more likely to keep their workstation clean if you notify them about it. Write an email or announcement and circulate it to all the employees. Post reminders around the workplace that will make them remember. For instance, print something that says “clean as you go” or something of that nature.
Place trash bins around the office
Make the trash bins easily accessible. Place one at every workstation and in different areas of the office, so they are within reach. It will be more convenient for staff to dispose of their trash appropriately; thus, they will not get lazy throwing them right away.
Hire commercial cleaners
Although employees are expected to clean up, you should get commercial cleaners to do the daily cleaning in the office that the office staff may not do. While they can clean their workstation and throw their trash, the commercial cleaners will be the ones to do the sweeping of the floors, cleaning the bathroom, and other things that the office employees cannot do.
Ensure there is enough cleaning supply
Having enough cleaning supplies is necessary if you want to keep the office clean. Employees need to use something to make that happen. For instance, there should be enough tissue paper to easily wipe any spills or dirt.
Buy cabinets and organizers
Use as minimal paper as you can. Save files on your computer or on the Internet to lessen the use of paper. However, there may still be things that will require its use, so keep them organized by investing in office cabinets and organizers. It will keep the files neat and in order.
Reward your employees
Employees are more motivated if there is a reward. It doesn’t have to be grand; a little token of appreciation will be enough. Recognize and reward the employee or team with the cleanest workstations so everyone will be encouraged.
Consider these things to help keep the office clean and reap its benefits. A clean workplace is also good for everyone’s health.
