How to Make Your Home Feel More Private

March 6, 2023 by Danny Leave a Comment

Most people do not want people peering in at their properties or overhearing their conversations, but it’s an unfortunate reality for many.

Your home should serve as a haven away from the rest of the world, but thin walls, large windows, and a lack of fencing may stop you from feeling happy and comfortable.

If you’re tired of passers-by looking into your garden or don’t want to listen to the sound of nearby traffic, read the following advice on how to make your home feel more private.

Add Secondary Glazing

If you can hear traffic, neighbors, and passers-by when relaxing in your home, the chances are they can hear your conversations, the sound of your TV, or your singing in the kitchen.

Create a more private, tranquil space by ensuring you have the right windows to reduce noise.

For example, secondary glazing is the best option, as you can install an extra layer of glass to your single or double-glazed windows.

By doing so, you can chat, laugh, and sing to your heart is content, and you won’t be distracted by the sound of traffic, roadworks, or neighbors as you read a book, soak in a bubble bath, or watch TV.

Also, the extra pane of glass will improve your home’s heat insulation, allowing you to enjoy a cozy, private home each day.

Plant Trees and Shrubs

Stop people from looking inside your property by planting trees and shrubs in your garden.

One or more beautiful, fast-growing trees and shrubs could shield your home, enhancing your privacy and comfort each day.

What’s more, trees and shrubs are noise buffers, as they can reduce noise to human ears by approximately 50%.

As a result, they are a great way to block out the sound of chatting passers-by, loud neighbors, or constant traffic.

Erect a Fence

If your home feels exposed to prying eyes, it might be an ideal time to erect a fence to improve your privacy.

As many designs are available, you’ll find it easy to find fencing to match your property’s architectural design, as well as your taste and budget.

For example, you could install the following:

  • Traditional wooden fencing (pick a long-lasting wood, such as pine or cedar)
  • Corrugated metal fencing
  • PVC fencing

The right fence could prevent the feeling that you’re being watched when relaxing in your pajamas, sitting down for dinner, or having a dance party with your kids.

Introduce Blinds or Shutters

Give yourself peace of mind that no one is staring into your home, day or night, by installing attractive blinds or shutters over your windows.

The window coverings are easy to install and will provide more control of your home’s privacy.

For example, if you don’t want to feel as if people are staring at you when working at home or during a fun movie night with your partner or family, you can close the blinds and shutters for 100% privacy.

Also, blinds and shutters will prevent warm air from escaping your home when closed, which will create a homely environment for you and your loved ones.
