Game 2 Streak - Albeit A Little One

Last night was a fun one in Yankeeland. How will today's game go?

Let's hope it's better than Game 2 of 2007. Proctor, Vizcaino and Jeter were not great that day. In fact, as a team, the Yankees were 3 for 13 with RISP. This is what I wrote about that game:

A: The rear view of an adult male baboon with external hemorrhoids.

Q: What is almost as ugly as the way the Yankees, as a team, played in this game.

And, then there was Game 2 of 2006. In that game the Yankees bats went 2 for 15 with RISP and Proctor blew it in the 9th. But, as I wrote back then...Joe Torre was more to blame for that one than Proctor.

The Yankees wouldn't pull this again, tonight, in Game 2 (for the third year in a row) would they? If so, can they just tell me now and save me the drive tonight...please?

On the one hand, it probably won't be a close game because Mussina will get shelled within the first three innings. On the other, we'll get to watch the bullpen and figure out who some of the new faces are.

I don't like the Yankees chances in any game that Mussina pitches in 2008 but that still wouldn't stop me from going to a game, let alone the first one of the summer!

If Mussina ever gets stabbed 57 times, I'm going to direct the police to MJ. I kid, I kid...

Mussina had two starts against the Blue Jays last year -- he won both; he was decent in one and good in the other (both came at the end of the year, almost back to back).

Mussina is probably nothing more than a four/five starter in the AL right now, and yeah, it would be great if he could be the 2006 Mussina again, but it's hard to hate a guy for getting old. He's in the last year of a tenure that his team would do again in a nanosecond. He was an ace at one time and pitched well for the team. Now he's old and fragile. Such is life in the real world.

I think Mussina will do better, but only in the sense that his numbers will improve from what was a statistically hellish season. He'll probably still get battered once in a while because he needs precise control and that evades everyone on occasion.

Heh... The "Proctor is not a SP thread."

I'd never be so obvious as to do it myself. I'd let someone else do it for me! :-)

Seriously though, I don't hate Mussina, I just don't think he'll be very good. I'd like to be optimistic but I just don't see him being anything more than below-average this year.
