The Look Of The New Stadium
See the images below - it's a comparison of what the new Yankee Stadium was supposed to look like, when they announced the deal back in June of 2005, and how it's actually shaping up today.
As you can see, in terms of the “structure” the actual new Stadium is dead-on for what was suggested two-and-a-half years ago. But, the color scheme is not the same. In fact, the actual “new” Stadium really looks drab, as in lacking liveliness or charm - if you ask me.
I suppose that they may have some plans to paint the new place, or something. But, if you look at color pictures of the “first” Yankee Stadium, you see that they color of the new structure is pretty close to what the first place looked like (on the outside). And, I’m pretty sure that’s the look the Yankees are going for with the new place.
Again, to me, it’s starting to look more like a mausoleum than a ballpark.
When I compare this to what the Mets are doing with their new park (with the brick work on the outside) and then also look at parks such as Camden and Arlington, I’m thinking maybe the Yankees should have gone with a different look for their exterior.
Maybe Lou Di Falco was right? What do you think?

The new place is far, far from done. I'm sure it'll look nice and pretty when they're finished.
And besides, do you know how often a major structure like this ends up looking like the architect's original rendering? Never.

They couldn't go with a brand-new, modern exterior design because annoying fans would weep even louder about the Stadium being torn down. Restoring the look of the old ballpark was as much a p.r. move as anything else.

I can't tell anything from those pics.

To match the artist's rendering, my guess is they would have to use some sort of brick - that or an orange-red concrete of some sort.
I'd rather have grey. Gives it that intimidating 'Soldier Field' type of presence, IMO. I want our opponents to have a lump in their throats when they get off the team bus...

I find it a bit amusing between the two renderings the not-so-subtle differences in surrounding scenery.
In the first, you have trees, and it looks to be a nice Spring or Summer day.
In the second, you have construction barriers, detour signs, and it's winter.
I would argue that it has more of a museum-like quality than a mausoleum-like quality, but the exterior stone they chose is pretty dark. They won't paint the exterior, at least they shouldn't after all they paid for that stone...
