Red Sox Threatening To Boycott Japan Trip

Via ESPN.com:

The Boston Red Sox are threatening to boycott their season-opening games in Japan unless their coaches and other staff are paid for making the trip.

Mike Lowell has told The Boston Globe the team voted unanimously not to take the field for their final spring training game or to board the plane later Wednesday for Japan.

See, now is the time for Mike Mussina to give Theo Epstein a call.

They are getting paid.

They make 1/162 of their salary for the 1st game of the season, 1/162 for the 2nd game, etc, even though their paychecks aren't prorated for how many games were played over that 2 week span.

So, the real dispute isn't them not getting paid, it's them not getting an extra $40,000 just for having the games be in Japan.

Actually, the real dispute is not them not getting an extra $40,000 for having the games played in Japan, but them not getting an extra $40,000 that they were promised for games played in Japan. There's a difference.

I'd hope that the Yankee players would do the same for their coaches if they were in this situation.

"I'd hope that the Yankee players would do the same for their coaches if they were in this situation."

The Yankee players actually paid the coaches out of the player pool back in 2004. That's supposedly what MLB expected the Red Sox to do as well.
