Good News On Murcer
Ed Price reports that "tests undergone on Bobby Murcer's brain showed a form of necrosis, or scar tissue from radiation treatments and not another cancerous tumor."
This is great to hear - and, on the lighter-side, I'm sure the boys in the YES booth will give Bobby the requisite amount of "X-Rays Of Murcer's Head Shows Nothing" jokes.

That's seriously great news. When I heard that Murcer had to go back for another biopsy I was pretty worried that this might be the end. I realize he's got a long road ahead of him but it's just pleasing to know that we'll get to hear his voice on TV this year. I never got to see him play but he's always been one of my favorite play-by-play guys.
Good for him!

I'm absolutely thrilled to hear the news. Bobby's always been a favorite of mine since his playing days. I especially love listening to him in the booth.
Yea Bobby!

I am delighted to hear this news. Murcer may not be the most consistently informative of the Yanks' crew, but he and Singleton are the easiest listen on a regular basis because 1) they don't shove things down your throat, and 2) they don't constantly talk about how the era in which they played was the one where baseball was played the right way.
If there's one thing I can't stand, it's the "back in my day, the way we did things was the right way" school of announcing. I know everyone loved Jim Kaat, and nobody knew more about playing technique, and what it really takes to win baseball games, but I got oh so tired of his constant berating of pitch counts and innings limits for young pitchers, and how they ran so much more and threw so much more in his day, and how nobody ever got a sore arm, and how your best pitch is your fastball, and how you throw the fastball up in the zone to get hitters out, and all of the stuff that went out the window in the era of lower mounds, smaller strike zones, smaller parks, and steroid abuse.
Well, sorry about the rant on Kaat. Back on main point, I am thrilled this turned out to be a false alarm for Bobby. He and Mel Stottlemyre were my first two baseball heroes; Mickey was already a shadow of himself by the time I became a serious fan in 1967 when I was 7.

Glad to hear that news on Bobby Murcer. He's a class guy and I hope his recovery continues to go well.
