All In A Day's Wang
Today, down in Tampa, Worm Killer Wang started an exhibition contest for the Yankees, against the Blue Jays, and faced 13 batters - going 3.2 innings. Eight of the 11 outs he recorded were retired via ground balls (including a DP). The other two outs were a strikeout and flyball. (He also have up two hits and two walks.)
Fear not for the Wanger at this moment. All looks good in Worm-Killer-Land today.

I know it's early... blah, blah, blah, but we are seeing decent to above decent stuff from Wang, Pettitte, Moose, Hughes, IPK, and Joba (and Mo). It's easy to forget Wang with all the hype about the other young guys, but he's also young, has lots of big league experience, ought to eat 200 innings again, and never gets rattled. That's pretty promising for the staff. At least for this week. There has to be lots of smiles in Tampa right now. We should be smiling as well. With our offense, we don't need great pitching to win. But, add better than average pitching to our hitting, keep the key guys healthy, run the bases a bit more, etc... and we could win 105-108 games. The outfield defense will be as good as we have had in a few years with Damon (nice catch at the wall last night) in left and Melky in center. Joba and Kennedy pitched well yesterday, although a few hard hit balls were right at our defenders. Pretty darn good for such young arms. Both have that look that they belong and both are aggressive in the strike zone.

At least if we're pitching well out of ST, we can hopefully get through a tough April.
