The Girardi Rules

General Joe lays down the law. Via Kat O'Brien -

Here is a partial list of rules the Yankees have for spring training:

1. Be on time. No excuse for lateness.
2. Shorts and T-shirt permitted only during spring training.
3. Curfew of 1 a.m.
4. Jewelry -- only one chain is permitted. No earrings.
5. Only neatly cut beards, mustaches, goatees. No long hair or "unshaven looks."
6. No family members in the clubhouse until after games.
7. No cell phones in the dugout.
8. Cell phones allowed in the clubhouse only until one hour before games.
9. No competing speakers in the clubhouse.

Number 3 is going sit real well with Giambi, Jeter, A-Rod and some others. I wonder what will happen if someone gets caught breaking it?

Only neatly cut beards, mustaches, goatees.

Whoa, now, that's a change. Big Stein must be 100% out of the loop now - this one clinches it.

Well, I would be booted pretty quick. 1 a.m.? No "unshaven look"? And I can't wear shorts and T-shirts while wandering around balmy Tampa? Pffft. I'm out.

But seriously, I hate these lists. You would get ridiculous lists like this at work, at times. The lateness, cell phones, guests, etc., are obvious, but it's amazing when people think they need to treat adults as children. The more you treat an adult like a child the more he feels like acting like one.

I wonder if these rules apply for ST only. I wouldn't be shocked if the ban on facial hair was back in full effect once the team goes north.

Jeter, Giambi, Joba and a few guys are not going to like number 3.

A-Rod probably won't care (he is married, cheating, but with kids) and his late nights are pretty much a thing of the past.

Number 5 is a shocker, I wasn't even aware the manager could do that, I know at one point in the 90's before the WS years, they loosened up and allowed goatees (Mattingly had a scruffy one), but dumped it real quick.

I'm guessing hank, cashman and co, authorized Giradi on this....which is odd because I don't think he allowed facial hair on the marlins (I can't remember though).
