Yankees Fight Song

Today, I found myself wondering "How many Yankees fans know all the words to the Yankees 'official song'"?

You know the song, right? Via Wikipedia -

"Here Come the Yankees" is the official theme song of the New York Yankees baseball team.

It has been the official team anthem since 1967, when it was composed by Bob Bundin and Lou Stallman. Bundin and Stallman were associated at the time with Columbia Records, whose then-owner, the media conglomerate CBS, was also the parent company of the Yankees. It was recorded by the Sid Bass Orchestra and Chorus.

Here's the lyrics, via The Deadball Era Site:

Y.A.N.K.E.E.S.
Here come the YANKEES
Let's get behind and cheer the YANKEES
They're gonna learn to fear the YANKEES
Everyone knows they play to win, cause

They're the New York YANKEES
Show them today why you're the YANKEES
No other way when you're the YANKEES
Wadda ya say we win a brand, new, ballgame

We're gonna shout when ya powder the ball
We're gonna scream, "put it over the wall"
The other teams gonna know what it means to play the Y.A.N.K.E.E.S
We love the Yankees
Shout it out loud , We Love The YANKEES
We're really proud of our YANKEES
And we're gonna win today
2, 3, 4, Hit, Run, Fight, Score, Go! Go! Go!

We're gonna shout when ya powder the ball
We're gonna scream "put it over the wall yo"
The other teams gonna know what it means to play the Y.A.N.K.E.E.S
We love the Yankees
Shout it out loud, We Love The YANKEES
We're really proud of our YANKEES
And we're gonna win today

Y.A.N.K.E.E.S. Yes
Y.A.N.K.E.E.S. Yes

O.K., so, 'fess up. How many out there knew all the words?

Me? Yeah, I gotta say, even after all these years, I sorta hum my way through parts of it.

I wonder if Big Stein and the Brothers H-Stein even know all the words?

I knew the first two verses, but not the rest. Pretty interesting stuff.

Here's another one...how many people know the Yankees used to have a mascot called Dandy?

Steve, there are times when I visit your site and I feel like a pretend Yanks fan. This is one of those times.

I didn't even know there was Yanks fight song. Do I have to give in my Yanks Fan badge to one of the denizens at Piper's Kilt?

Dandy - yup, I remember him:

Nick - that's OK - never too late to catch up on this stuff.

Dandy was an ugly sucker. I also vaguely remember him having an altercation with Craig Nettles (I think), and then being banished to the upper deck.

Maybe the reason few people know about the Yankee fight song is because it sucks compares to "Meet the Mets".

Fans who sing Neil Diamond songs should not throw stones.

Dan, really, take a walk. You a little man.

Also, while the Deadball Era site came through with having the lyrics and audio to this song, they aren't the best spellers in the world:

"Show them today why your (sic) the YANKEES
No other way when your (sic) the YANKEES"

Obviously, that's "you're the YANKEES." Just pointing that out...

I always considered the opening to the radio program the Yankees' theme song: da-daaaa, da-da-da-DAAA da-da-daaaaa....

They should play it at the stadium. It certainly would beat listening to Cotton Eye Joe at EVERY game. Although, maybe that will stop since Roger Clemens introduced it last season.

Good catch B. That bothered me so much that I just edited it - so that it would be correct, now.
