Godzilla To Giants?

From the Post -

The Giants asked [the Yankees] about Hideki Matsui and are talking to the Blue Jays about Alex Rios for pitchers Matt Cain or Tim Lincecum. Matsui has a full no-trade clause.

And, from ESPN -

The Giants are looking for an outfielder, and an interesting name has surfaced in their search -- Yankees left fielder Hideki Matsui. He has two years and $26 million on his contract and would have to waive his no-trade clause.

By season end, Matsui will score you 100 runs, drive in another 100, and hit 25 HR with a batting average around .290 - - but, he is a very steaky hitter.

I expect Giambi to be a total bust this season. So, it would be nice to have Matsui around to DH and spend some time in LF (with Damon).

I would trade him for Lincecum, no question. But, I doubt the Giants make that offer. How about Matt Cain? I'm not sure - I think all those walks, in the A.L., would come back to haunt Cain. But, I could be wrong too.

I also heard Lowry. If it's not Lincy, then I don't want anything from the Giants.

Plus, as you said, since Giambi's absolutely a worthless POS at this point, Matsui serves as Giambi insurance. If anything, I'd argue the Yanks need another bat to hedge against Matsui's streakiness and Giambi's worthlessness.

What, no hat tip to baileywalk for this post? Ha, ha. Just kidding...

Cain is off the table -- for everyone. Jays wanted him but the Giants don't want to part with him. Seems most people prefer Cain to Lincecum because of Lincecum's size (they feel he's going to break down soon).

Personally, as I wrote in the previous post, I would add a little something to go along with Matsui, and maybe even throw in some cash, to get Lincecum. Otherwise, I'm not sure the Giants have anything to offer. Is there anyone in their bullpen worth taking a look at?

Lincecum could be used in any number of ways for the Yanks: they could start him, they could flip him to the Twins for Johan, they could use him in the Joba role (two-inning setup man). And getting him could also open the door to other trades (maybe the Yankees wouldn't mind trading him and Kennedy in the same deal if they can keep Hughes).

I'm SHOCKED that the Giants would trade someone with so much potential -- especially for Alex Rios -- but if he's out there and available, the Yankees should do everything they can to bring him in. I wouldn't add Austin Jackson to the mix (I think he's going to be a star someday) but I would certainly sacrifice Alan Horne or someone on that level.

I just don't see this as happening. I can't imagine that the Giants would trade their potential star 24-year old pitcher for a 34-year old OF. They would get killed in the press if they did that.

It would have to be Matsui+, but Lincecum is on the table right now -- that's something we know for sure.

Getting Lincecum would be wild. Either he or Joba as setup man.

As for Lincecum breaking down, look at all the big, tall pitchers who have broken down. Who can tell with Lincecum.

Matsui and Austin Jackson for Lincecum? I do that deal in a heartbeat.

Matsui, Ajax, Agon, McCutchen and Horne for Lincecum. Fair, no?

Cain or Lincecum for Rios makes a lot of sense,Rios is an All Star who is young ,cheap and would be an offensive upgrade for the Giants.Cain or Lincecum makes no sense to trade for Matsui,he is on the downside of his career and he makes 13 million dollars a year.Effectively, this would be a salary dump and Sabean has made stupid trades before BUT he's not that stupid. If they didn't trade one of their young two for Rios, there is no way they are trading for Matsui even if half the money is paid for.Matsui would be traded for a lesser starter or reliever.Would Yankee fans want to trade Hughes,Kennedy or Joba for Gary Matthews Jr?Maybe (and I really mean maybe) one of the Young Three for Cabrera is one thing!
