Steve, I have been looking for why the DH came to be, and i get that was because of the lack of offence in the AL, i cant seem to find the reason for this, if u have a clue about this let me know ,

i understand the the DH but i want to know why only in the AL and why the AL did not hit for a better avg. than the NL, the same question as why the western conference is better in basketball and why the AFC is better than the NFC in football, what were the factors in base ball in the 60's and 70's that lead to the NL being more of a hitters league??

From the wiki entry - "Naturally, the result of the first season of the DH was that the American League posted a higher batting average than the National League, something which has remained consistent to this day."

Of course, I don't have the time to verify the claim, but I do find it a bit amusing that several "big" MLB records were challenged & broken by NL players.
