Geraldo Castiglione
Is it just me, or is Duke Castiglione an insufferable sox-spawn and so-called sports "reporter" who is always looking to start trouble in Yankeeland?
Last night, on WNYW (Fox 5) Sports Extra, Castiglione led the sports report with all this hype about how Jorge Posada could be heading to the Mets, etc. - and, then, when you see the footage of Jorge, it's all about how he and the Yankees are close, that the Yankees are his first choice, etc. - and, oh, by the way, yes, he has a meeting scheduled with the Mets.
This got me thinking about when Randy Johnson joined the Yankees in 2005 - and, then, with CBS, Duke Castiglione got totally invasive with the Big Unit - making a case where he (Duke) became a story (that he created.)
Maybe Duke Castiglione is just a pixie of a man and this is his reporting M.O.? Sort of like the Geraldo-wanna-be of sports jounalism? Or, maybe he's a Red Sox fan (like his father, Joe) and this is how he gets his jollies - trying to be the stick that pokes the Yankees beehive? Either way, man, is he annyoing.

Some interesting facts about Duke and Joe Castiglion.Joe originally was a Yankees fan growing up but changed his allegiances to the Sox in the late 60s.Duke worked at Fenway Park,he actually worked in the opposing dugout as towel boy or something like that. The Yankee cycle is complete because Duke is raising his kids Yankee fans! Why?Most Sox fans become Mets fans when they move here BUT he didn't want his kids to continually have disappointments year after year.Duke actually told a story where he went back to Beantown and some Southie Red Sox fan said to him:"You don't know da Real Sawx anymore!".Look he's stirring up controversy and that's what sells papers and I've actually appreciated some valid criticisms he's made throughout the years.I don't think he is a homer like Joe Castiglione(who makes John Sterling seem impartial).I can get a couple Red Sox radio network stations in this part of Long Island and Joe C is the biggest homer this side of the Mississippi!People like Sterling,Kalas(of the Phillies), and Rose are honest about their teams to a fault sometimes but Castiglione sounds like a Northeastern version of the the homer announcers you hear in the Midwest!

Duke is a weasel, but weasels get found out. His provocation of Johnson was bad enough, but then he got greedy. I am sure that many of you recall that he even continued to relentlessly badger Johnson at his introductory Yankee press conference - so leave it to a weasel to make the Big Unit a sympathetic figure. Good points above by Butchie, amusing as well.
What I would like to know is what was Jerry Laveroni doing while Johnson was being badgered? Guy is ex-CIA and his protection of Johnson that day was feeble at best.
Raising a child as a red sox fan is child abuse, 2 WS notwithstanding, many of them are such great fans, but they still "wait to lose"...
