Dot Jetes: My Boy Does Everything Right!

Insert your Mommy Dearest and Mother Bates jokes here. From the Daily News:

Don't you dare call my son a tax cheat!

Derek Jeter's mother defended him Friday amid allegations he sidestepped state taxes by declaring Florida his home state when he really lives in New York.

"He pays his taxes," Dorothy Jeter told the Daily News.

"My boy does everything right - everything right," she said at her New Jersey home. "He's paid taxes in New York for every doggone day he's been there."

Like a lioness defending her cub, she lashed out at the media for reporting on the state's efforts to get her son to pay up.

"Do you have children?" she cried. "You know how hard it is to watch on the news that your son is a tax cheat?

"It kills me," she added. "You're going to give me a heart attack."

If the quotes in this report are not enough to paint you a picture, then check out the photo of Dorothy Jeter laying into a reporter outside house in New Jersey.

Shame on the reporters for going to Jeter's parents house for a reaction. Something like this could lead to Derek starting to boycott the press. How could a Yankees captain pull that off? Well, Thurman Munson did a good job at being captain while also being nasty to most of the media.

Anyone else starting to see the needle on the "King of the Yankees & Darling of the City" meter starting to swing over more towards A-Rod and away from Jeter?

This could be start of an interesting new chapter in the "Derek Jeter Story."

-----------

Not in the least. Outside of Barry Bonds, A-Rod is the most reviled athlete in sports, and he just took a beating in the media.

Of course, the Jeter hatred in some parts has always been white-hot, Steve. I wouldn't worry about that one bit.

Nothing like a bunch of scumbag reporters camping out in front of Jeter's parents house to get a comment.....

This is typical of New York State. My father has lived in Connecticut his entire career, and was a consultant. The office of his company is in NYC on Park Avenue.

Every year the state of New York tried to argue that his domicile was in NYC and every year they audited him. Every year the found they owed him money. Jeter's case is more interesting because he actually does have an apartment in NYC. I leave it up to his lawyers to figure this one out.

However, that being said, to call him a "tax cheat" is just nonsense. The State of New York is notorious for going after every dollar of tax revenue they can get (see above regarding my father). It's just part of their game. They are *very* aggressive.

This is not a big deal, just standard par for the course from the folks in Albany.
