Will Randy Levine Be The Driver On Torre Call?
From Newsday -
The Yankees' organizational meetings, now scheduled to start Tuesday in Tampa, Fla., will cover more than Joe Torre's future.
Myriad officials will take part in different conversations - the amateur scouting people when discussing the farm system, for instance, or vice president Gene Michael on the major-league roster.
But when Torre's name comes up, the conversation likely will include only the very top of the Yankees' hierarchy. These people will collectively make the call on Torre's future:
Brian Cashman, General manager
He saved Torre's job last year but likely won't try to do it this time. He likes Joe Girardi as a candidate to replace Torre.
Randy Levine, President
Not a Torre fan.
Felix Lopez, Senior vice president
Has tried to inject himself into this sort of decision, but sitting in the room will be his lone contribution.
George Steinbrenner, Principal owner
He's attempted to keep it quiet, but he doesn't like Torre. Wants Don Mattingly to take over.
Hal Steinbrenner, Chairman of the board, Yankee Global Enterprises
Hal, George's younger son, tends to say less when his older brother is in the same room.
Hank Steinbrenner, Senior vice president
He's back on the scene again after vanishing for a couple of months, and he's a Mattingly fan like his dad.
Lonn Trost, COO
Unlikely to be vocal during the Torre talk, although he can assure the Steinbrenners that firing Torre won't cost them any revenues.
Randy Levine just rubs me the wrong way - he always seemed like the Yankees version of Larry Lucchino to me. You know, Levine was named team president in January 2000. That was the last year that the Yankees won a ring. Maybe we should be talking about "The Curse of Randy Levine"?

He can't be the Curse if he was present for the last championship unless he was the person for cutting ties to Luis Polonia. No championships since then.
Boy, I didn't even remember guys like Lance Johnson, Roberto Kelly, and Felix Jose were on the roster during the 2000 regular season.
