Drew Carey & Ian Hunter Will Love This October?

So, now, the Colorado Rockies are up, three-zip, in the 2007 NLCS. For a Yankees fan, this would only be better if Jerry "I like to play 'New York, New York' when my team wins the World Series" Colangelo still owned the Arizona Diamondbacks.

O.K., show of hands: How many other people out there, when they see a team now go up 3-0, in a best of seven series, want to see the team ahead now lose four in a row - just so that the Yankees, with the 2004 ALCS results, won't be alone?

Lastly, am I the first to think of this? If Colorado does win the N.L. pennant, and if the Indians win the A.L., the 2007 Fall Classic could be known as the "Cleveland Rocks" World Series. Makes sense, no?

I just can't see Cleveland winning this series. Sure, Boston losing Game 2 was probably deflating for them. But the way I see it, Sabathia and Carmona both sucked and now Boston can tee off against two tomato cans (Westbrook/Byrd) and potentially be up 3-1 with Beckett, Schilling, and Dice-K lined up to win 1 out of 3 thereafter.

As for the Colorado/Arizona series...wow, Arizona got exposed in this one. Unfortunately for Colorado, when the magical winning streak ends, I have a feeling it will end suddenly and painfully. But there's no question that I'm rooting for Colorado to beat Boston in the World Series.

The Rockies are a great story, and I hope they keep it up. Has anyone else noticed that on every throw he makes from the outfield Eric Byrnes feels the need to tumble like a gymnast at the Olympics?

Meanwhile, go Indians! We thought the Yanks were going to tee off on Paul Byrd too, so who knows? Then again, if you ask Chip Carey and Bob Brenly, he's the second coming of Nolan Ryan and is completely unhittable. I never thought I'd be glad to hear Tim McCarver announce a baseball until sitting through a series with those two.

Boston doesn't hit as good on the road and the Indians get to face Dice-K and Wakefield as well, so it's possible both of those games could be high scoring. I think if Cleveland wins Game 3, they will be in really good shape. Of course now that I've said that, the Red Sox will probably win 12-0 in both games.

Steve -

You're constantly reading my thoughts re: the D-backs winning the next four.

Ha, ha. That's a really good insight into Yankee fans, Steve. I definitely hold out hope that some other team will choke away a lead the way the Yankees did, just so we don't have to hear "yeah, the Yankees were up 3-0 to Boston and lost, so it's POSSIBLE..."

But I'm not rooting for that this year. The D'Backs would get killed by either the Indians or Sox, so I hope Colorado wins and puts up a fight.

I could very easily see the Indians beating the Sox. Matsusaka wasn't good at all against the Angels, and the Angels couldn't score to save their lives against Schilling and Beckett. The Indians have a much better lineup than the Angels. Wakefield is a bit of a crapshoot, too. He could end up being awful and getting his ass handed to him. If Westbrook and Byrd can give them five decent innings each, I can see them easily winning both of those games.

Beckett has been a true-blue ace, but Schilling wasn't good at all against the Indians and frankly I think Matsuzaka is worn out. I think the Indians are in good shape.

And the Rockies will compete against either team. Their pitching is actually pretty good. Francis is one of those "crafty lefties" that drive you nuts, and they have a couple of younger pitchers who throw the ball well. Their pitching staff isn't, like Arizona's, made up of pure NL pitchers (I'm specifically talking about Hernandez and Davis, not Webb and Owings). Their bullpen is good, too.

And I know momentum doesn't really exist in baseball, but 19 out of 20 -- and maybe 20 out of 21 -- has to mean something.
