Yanks Set Attendance Record
From the Journal News -
The Yankees have set a franchise record for paid attendance at Yankee Stadium. The team announced today that fans have purchased 4,262,761 tickets this season, breaking last season's mark of 4,243,780.
This marked the third straight year that the Yankees have drawn at least 4 million fans. The Toronto Blue Jays are the only other team to have done that, drawing 4 million-plus from 1991-93.
The Yankees are leading the majors in total home attendance with 4,000,924 over 76 games. They also are No. 1 in average home attendance at 52,644, selling out 45 games so far.
They average 52,600 a game. Man, that's crazy. Just crazy. Then again, I'm going to a game this week. So, I guess I'm just adding to it.

They said that attendance was 52,000+ last night, but it didn't really seem like it. Unless several thousand people grabbed their Snoopy dolls and left before the game. And it really didn't look like 52,000 the night before (which they also claimed). Maybe they're counting tickets sold? Although I thought there was a crackdown on counting tickets sold as "attendance".

Remember back in the late 70's and early 80's when the Dodgers were breaking 3 million in Chavez Ravine? It was said that there was no way the Yanks could do 3 million in the South Bronx.
Some stories have a happy ending.

MLB does go by ticket sales, not turnstile clicks. I think it is because of needing to share the gate revenue.

I agree Joel, I agree. They were saying that in the late 80's and early 90's too, that the area was preventing people from coming to the Stadium.
