Post-Season Shares

Let's say the Yankees make the post-season and win the whole thing. If I'm not mistaken, because he's on the D.L., Carl Pavano automatically gets a full post-season share (of the ring prize money).

Knowing this, I wonder how the Yankees will vote on shares for guys like Joba Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy if it turns out that they have a big part in the Yankees making the post-season.

I hope the players do the right thing for these guys, if that's the case.

With SWB out of the playoffs, the Yankees made a bunch of callups (with more to come when the AA playoffs are over). The roster is going to be packed, which makes me wonder if Michael Kay will pontificate on how such a crowded roster kills pennant races. (My guess: he'll be mute on it.) I'm a little surprised the Yankees are using the callups mostly as thank-yous. Matt DeSalvo and Jeff Karstens don't figure to pitch much. They might have Ohlendorf around to see what he does out of the 'pen. I doubt Chase Wright or Clippard (who will arrive sooner or later) will pitch much either. Why no T.J. Beam or Kevin Whelan, who can help out of the 'pen? Or another infielder?

Great questions that Cashman should answer. I've never really understood Cashman's philosophy when it came to calling up people from the minors. Why'd it take Chris Britton the whole year to come up here?

Anyway...

Can someone explain why Torre keeps on starting Giambi at 1st? If he were hitting, it'd be one thing. But Giambi's been slumping pretty badly the last few weeks. I'd like to see Shelley get a few more AB's. I'm not naive enough to think that Shelley's ever going to be as good as a bad Giambi but it wouldn't kill Jason to sit down for a few games and work out his swing with Donnie or K-Long. In the meantime, Shelley could be playing and giving himself a shot at making the playoff roster.

I asked this very question over at Pete Abe's, and while it wasn't Pete Abe who answered, I was told that the players determine who gets a full and who gets a partial share.

I'm not necessarily happy with the answer (and I'm also curious as to whether there's more than one type of partial share), but I tell you so you know.
