Perry: Red Sox Vs. Mets Or D-Backs In Fall Classic
From Dayn Perry -
As the numbers above show, the Red Sox are clearly the class of baseball when it comes to having the kind of team that thrives in the postseason. The NL is more tightly bunched, but the D-backs and Mets both have what it takes. As for the Yankees, well, it appears their "drought" will continue.
If this is indeed our playoff fray, then don't be surprised if, when all is said and done, we end up with the Red Sox in triumph over the Diamondbacks or Mets.
I have a lot of respect for the Perry/Silver "what goes into postseason success" study. But, I also think there's a way to beat that "system." Note the following - it's team's, to date for 2007, PA/SO (as batters) ratio:
2007 Team PA/SO
Twins 7.50
Dodgers 7.37
Mariners 7.27
Angels 7.16
Giants 6.78
Cardinals 6.73
Yankees 6.67
Orioles 6.65
Mets 6.34
Red Sox 6.27
Cubs 6.05
Tigers 6.01
Astros 6.01
Blue Jays 5.95
Royals 5.81
A's 5.78
Reds 5.71
Rockies 5.67
Brewers 5.64
Braves 5.58
Pirates 5.54
Nationals 5.52
Phillies 5.51
Diamondbacks 5.51
White Sox 5.34
Indians 5.26
Padres 5.10
Rangers 5.10
Marlins 4.84
Devil Rays 4.80
In the post-season, when you put the ball into play, sometimes good things can happen. And, the Yankees do put the ball into play. Then again, so do the Angels.

Keep in mind that this is the same Dayn Perry who just proclaimed the Red Sox the Best Franchise in the History of the Whole Entire World Ever, Ever. So I take his opinion with a ton of salt these days.

Then again, we may not have to play them until the ALCS. ;-)
