The most surprising thing about all this to me is the massive amount of steroids out there. It's not just athletes using this stuff -- clearly gym rats and people just hoping to look better are downing it too.

It's also shocking that the government is dedicating so much time and effort to stopping the inflow of steroids. Basically, who cares? If some idiot bodybuilder wants to ruin his liver and heart to get bigger pecs, should anyone give a damn? I have semi-similar views on hard drugs, but the difference here is that steroids more than likely aren't going to ruin the lives of everyone around you too and possibly send you into a world of harder crime.

I wouldn't mind if Carl Pavano's name showed up. Yankees could void his last year then, right?

Why would it be surprising? If drug use was as prevalent as it was 30+ years ago, it should come as no surprise that it would still be in the game. I remember reading in Bill Lee's book "The Wrong Stuff," that people were using the stuff back in his USC days.

If anything, I would think the quality would be better today.

Raf, I didn't mean in sports -- I meant in everyday life. With this amount of drugs out there, it's not just baseball and football players. As I said, it's gym rats and the self-obsessed too. I'm just surprised (a bit, anyway) that so many people are using 'roids. I knew it was out there, but I didn't think it was quite on this level.
