Last Call For Hardball Already?

Yesterday, we took the kids to go see the Somerset Patriots. Former Yankee Sam Marsonek started the game for the Patriots. It was a nice day at the ballpark.

The Camden Riversharks were the visiting team. I was surprised to see 38-year old Craig Paquette playing for them. Talk about "for love of the game!"

Actually, that's a good jumping point for where I'm going with this one. This was the seventh game that my kids saw this season. (We did three with the Patriots, one with the BlueClaws, one with the Thunder, one with the S.I. Yanks, and one up at the Stadium.) And, that's it for this season - because all the local leagues by us are done now.

As much as it is exciting at the start of a baseball season, I also find it a little depressing at the end of the season. Sure, there's the post-season, if you're lucky. But, even October flies right by and then you have no "on the field baseball" until the following spring. That seems like forever to me, even at my age.

Anyone else get the onset of the bye-bye baseball blues at this time of the year?

it's not the blues, it's downright depression.
i'm not a fan of football in the slightest, so there's nothing for me all winter.

I understand. The Mudhens are done for the year, so no more live action for me; just can't get for going to Detroit unless the Yankees are in town.

A ballpark in winter is a sad sight indeed.

It's funny you mention that Steve. Not more than 15 min ago I started thinking about how that awful time of the year is almost here where I have nothing to look forward to at the end of the day. Those days just feel so empty. And when they come you think it's just a Monday and they aren't playing that day, but then it hits you, and you realize they aren't playing the next day either, or the one after that, and it just keeps going for what seems like eternity. Then I immediately started to piece together next year's starting rotation, and that was fun for about 5 minutes, but then I got bored. I really dread the off-season.

You guys do know that they play baseball in the Caribbean, right? The seasons run from October to Feburary, playoffs included.

I was aware of the financial situation of the PR league (they've been having troubles the past few years), but there's still Mexico, DR, & Venezuela.

It's a pretty long drive for me to take my kids to Mexico, the DR, or Venezuela, to go see a game.

Be that as it may, I can't remember the last time I had the "bye-bye baseball blues" because after the postseason, there's baseball in Asia & Latin America.

Could be worse. You could be Irish and have had to endure the national embarrassment that is our team's ongoing "performance" in the rugby world cup ... I'm enjoying baseball for the distraction!

Suck it up, Lombardi. Strap a couple of pontoons to the family truckster and get those kids to some winter ball!

Maybe I could borrow El Duque's raft and take it south?

The New York Rangers will have a great season from October to (knock on wood) June :)

Boy am I with you on this one. I do enjoy football, but I just can't get into it yet. From my new office you can see the new Nats stadium going up in the distance, which I guess will have to keep me going for a while.

I am one of those, never say die people who loves every long drawn out post season at bat. For me October baseball is the best. That is, until the Yankees are eliminated. When that happens, I am barely functional for 2 days. Then for at least the next 6 weeks I can't bring myself to read or watch anything baseball related. It's usually right around Christmas time when I venture back into the blogoshpere and start checking out the hot stove.
