2007 Post-Season Roster
If I were the Yankees, this would be the 25-man roster that I would use for the post-season this year:
Alex Rodriguez
Bobby Abreu
Derek Jeter
Doug Mientkiewicz
Hideki Matsui
Jason Giambi
Johnny Damon
Jorge Posada
Jose Molina
Melky Cabrera
Robinson Cano
Shelley Duncan
Wilson Betemit
Andy Pettitte
Brian Bruney
Chien-Ming Wang
Edwar Ramirez
Ian Kennedy
Joba Chamberlain
Kyle Farnsworth
Luis Vizcaino
Mariano Rivera
Mike Mussina
Phil Hughes
Roger Clemens
If you were asked, would you pick the same? Anyone different?
I can't see anyone worth bumping for the likes of Ron Villone, Chris Britton, or Sean Henn.

Looks right. The only one I that I might not want is Bruney. Really, you could go with him, Britton, Ohlendorf or Villone... you just don't want to know what you're gonna get. If they decided to throw Ohlendorf on there... I wouldn't be mad.

That looks about right. The only name that sticks out is Bruney. I have a feeling that he isn't going to be playing in October. Maybe Torre goes with Villone just to have a lefty in the 'pen or drops Bruney for another positional player.

Look at how many times Villone has pitched in the last month. What is it, twice? He’s a non-factor in my mind – and it probably means he’s still hurt. It’s a shame, because the Yankees could use at least one LH-RP for a LOOGY spot in the post-season.

I've thought about this a lot. Does it really make sense to bring along both Kennedy and Hughes if neither of them have experience relieving? I understand that they have both "earned" their way but if the LDS rotation will be Pettitte, Clemens, Wang and Mussina, there doesn't seem to be much reason to have them both on the roster. I would maybe take Ohlendorf instead of one of them; Villone may be a lefty but he's not the type that really gets lefties out especially well.

Steve, I wrote up a similar roster yesterday and added some analysis - essentially we came up with the same result with only one difference.
My roster had Ohlendorf instead of Bruney, who's been awful of late and can't throw a strike. I'd rather have Britton at this point.
However the Yankees will go with Villone, since he happens to throw with his left arm, has "veteran-ness" and some sort of "belly of guts" or "heart of a lion."

Ohlendorf?
Unless they use him a lot in the next 10 days, I can't see him making the team for October.

Oh he won't. It'll be Villone. I just think he'd be the best choice were I to pick the roster.

Since Clemens, with his elbow, and Mussina, with his lack of fastball, could exit a game in the 3rd inning, I think it makes sense to have two guys who can give you some innings behind them. Otherwise, you could burn the pen in one or two games.
