Vayamos Yanquis De Nueva York!

Afternoon Baseball makes a good case for Melky, Mo & the Viz in terms of how much they've helped the Yankees in the last two months.

Actually, if you think about it, the 2007 Yankees have a tremendous Latin influence with A-Rod, Betemit, Posada, Cano, Molina, Cabrera, Cairo, Rivera, VizcaĆno, and Abreu on the team. That's 40% of the active roster - and some of the most important players on the team.

This squad just may be the most "Latin" team that the Yankees have ever fashioned in a season. I wonder if people appreciate the importance of the contribution from the Latin community towards the success that we're seeing now with the Yankees? If not, they should.

LOL, Steve. Just another reason for Chris Russo to hate the Yankees. Over the last 2 seasons Mad Dog has embroiled himself in a controversy over the Mets being "too" Latino, prompting a nasty on-air contretemps with Omar Minaya. The public reaction to Russo's moronic meanderings served to shut him up about that. We'll see if he reads WW and gets on his bigoted hobby horse again.

mlb.com has the expected W-L totals in their standings, and according to that the yankees and the bosox should have the same record

without these players we'd be pretty screwed

Steve i'd go 1 step further and throw in the fact that we are most likely the most diverse team in the MLB.
Can't forget that:
1)Damon is Hawaiian,
2)Joba is Native American (I think I read that somewhere)
3)Matsui and (gulp) Igawa are Japanese,
4) Wang is Taiwanese

Prob forgot someone

What is a 'native American'? I was born in America, I'm a native American.

They're the people who were formerly known as "Indians," which was quite amusing since none of them came from India, AFAIK.

I guess it isn't as amusing as Columbus' sense of direction, but that's another topic for another day.

Sorry, Gary Sheffield says the Yanks are not diverse; no authentic black players on the team, just a whole lot of Latinos who'll do whatever they're told.
