Steve,

Like everything else, it sort of depends on how you frame the question.

Your premise is that the Torre era Yankees are wildly successful when they score 9 runs (337-20).

However, I'm pretty sure that the Torre era Yankees are pretty sucky when they are losing by 8 runs (as they were after the top half of the 2nd inning ended).
