Yanks Braintrust Stops Down To Trenton

From phillyBurbs.com -

With a handful of New York Yankees front office members in attendance, the Trenton Thunder responded with a rare home clunker.

Trenton lost to the visiting Binghamton Mets, 3-1, Monday night in front of 5,105 fans at Mercer County Waterfront Park.

Yankees front office honchos in attendance included Hall of Famer and special advisor Reggie Jackson, vice president and special advisor to the principal owner Gene Michael, senior vice president for baseball operations Mark Newman and vice president for player personnel Billy Connors.

However, starting pitcher Jeff Marquez struggled, and the Thunder didn't get their first hit until catcher P.J. Pilittere led off the bottom of the sixth with a line drive single to right field.

Trenton (59-34) finished with just five hits — all singles — and scored its only run on a two-out RBI single by shortstop Alberto Gonzalez in the bottom of the eighth.

Two rehabbing Yankees pitchers will start for the Thunder today and Wednesday.

Jeff Karstens, who has appeared in 10 games for the Yankees over the last two seasons, is scheduled to throw about 75 pitches in a rehab start tonight. Karstens is returning from a broken right leg, suffered when Julio Lugo of the Boston Red Sox drilled him with a line drive on April 28.

On Wednesday, top prospect Phil Hughes will start for Trenton.

File this one under: Strange things are afoot at the Circle-K.

Reggie, Stick, Newman and Connors didn't go down there for the hotdogs at Mercer County Waterfront Park. They're either there to get a look at Karstens and Hughes - and decided to take in Monday's game too. Or, they wanted to see Jeff Marquez up close and personal - before maybe deciding if they want to trade him or not.

I'm thinking maybe it's the latter.

Or maybe they're looking at a Met farmhand? I don't think Cashman or Minaya would have a problem trading with each other.

And don't discount Connors going for the hot dogs if I have the right Connors.

You really think the Mets would be willing to trade a prospect to the Yankees?

Why not? Neither GM seems timid to me. You're too much into the Hatfields vs. McCoys.

Who knows why they were there, maybe it was for the hot dogs.

You're always pushing that all Yankee executives should spend at least 43 hours a day improving the organization wouldn't you want them to work on any deal that would help the team?

~~~You're too much into the Hatfields vs. McCoys.~~~
If you think that, when it comes to Mets-Yanks, then you're not fully aware of how much these two teams are in competition with each other in the NY market.
