The New Luis Vizcaino

Luis Vizcaino's stats since May 28th:

27 games
27.3 IP
26 K's
.160 Opp BA
.234 Opp SLG
0.99 ERA

You really can't ask a relief pitcher to throw any better than that.

I don't recall what exact game but I do remember watching Mo' give Vizcaino some pointers before the game. I hope The Viz can keep it up.

It seems as if Torre is falling in love with Vizcaino, just like he did in April.

Struggling through his first few months with the Yankees, Luis Vizcaino needed a shoulder to lean on. Mariano Rivera offered.

Now, with Vizcaino plugging away as one of the club's more reliable relievers, Rivera's gesture is paying dividends.

Torre recalled having a casual conversation with Rivera in the visitors' clubhouse at Colorado's Coors Field in June, discussing the continuing tutelage of Vizcaino. The consensus was that the 32-year-old should be brought along slowly and with a soft touch.
