Price: A-Rod's Hammy Needs Time
From Ed Price -
Speaking exclusively to the Star-Ledger after the game, Alex Rodriguez gave the impression that his sore left hamstring is far from OK.
"It's all right," said Rodriguez, who went 0-for-4 and seemed to favor the leg at times in the field. "It's going to take a few days to get, you know..."
If true, then, Alex should be a team player and pass on the All-Star game. I'm sure that three days off in a row would help him. But, what are the odds of that happening?

What do you think the odds are? I read your question as you feel there's very little chance he opts out but I don't want to try to understand what your thoughts are.

I think that A-Rod will play in this game, even if he's only 80% and could use the rest. Then again, Jeter would probably do the same thing. Matsui too. Guys of that level want to be on that stage and add another ASG gamed played to their resume - - that's just my opinion, Rich.

Do you think he's playing in these regular-season games now so it's not a controversy when he plays in the ASG? Because if he's still sore or injured, he should sit NOW. There's no reason to aggravate the hamstring. People will go berserk if he sits for the next two or three games and then plays in the ASG, but I would rather that than him hurting himself.

Yeah, if A-Rod is too injured for the ASG, then he's too injured to play now. In fact I wish he would sit for a couple of days now. Alex already has the ASG 2007 on his resume, he doesn't need to actually play for it to count.

Via Peter Abraham:
"A-Rod spoke and said he’ll know by Saturday whether he’s going to play in the All-Star Game. “If I feel like I do now, probably not,” he said"
Happy now, Steve?

Yes rbj.
Andy, I'm not bashing him here - just suggesting that he should do the right thing...and, it appears that he is.

Jeter's really banged up, I noticed him limping after he went headfirst into 2nd. Should he beg out also? What about Posada? It can't be too good flying out to the west coast and back. Seems pretty selfish to me if they don't rest up during the break.

Rich, if Jeter or Posada had just had to leave a game, within the past week, because of an injury, like A-Rod, then yes. But, they're not the same case. Com'on, you're smarter than that.
