Juan Francia

From Van Rose's mid-year report card on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees:

JUAN FRANCIA: Just who is this guy? The 5-foot-9, 150-pound Francia doesn’t look like Superman, but sure acts like him. Since his promotion from Trenton on June 11, Francia is batting a team-best .378, with a .427 slugging percentage. And he’s committed just one error in 23 games. A

Francia was originally signed by Detroit in 1998 out of Venezuela. Basically, he did nothing for them until 2005. But, then, last year, he bombed and was released at the end of the season - when the Yankees picked him up.

This season, Francia bats .177 at Double-A...and then only gets called up to Triple-A to fill a roster spot when the Yankees took Chris Basak away from Scranton. Once there, Francia starts playing like an All-Star.

Everything in the world says "Flash In The Pan" here; but, you never know. Juan Francia is still just 25-years old. It's a story worth keeping an eye on this summer.
