Erubiel Durazo
Pinstripes PA is reporting that the Yankees have signed Erubiel Durazo. (Thanks for the tip Dan!)
Back when the Yankees signed Durazo last year, I wrote:
When I hear Durazo, I think "Ken Phelps Jr." I've never been a fan of Durazo - and I think his "power" is over-rated. For two years, 2001-2002, he was mashing. After that, not so much. Whether it was a blip, or he had help, we won't know. But, I'm pretty confident that he's got nothing to offer now.
Nothing has changed for me there. I wonder if this means that Giambi is done for this season?

So they'll sign this guy, but let Carlos Pena walk? I assume this guy is just going to fill a roster slot in Scranton; let's hope so.

Apparently, John Jaha wasn't available.

I think you meant he was mashing in 2003-2004, his only two full seasons.

Steve, we went through this with Runelvys yesterday. Don't always look for deep meanings for minor league signings.
Maybe it means Giambi's not coming back this season. Maybe they want some roster filler or want to try to catch some lightning.
I don't know who DH's at Scranton if that's where Durazo is going. They'll take a look and see if he's a better choice.

I hope that if Giambi is in fact done for the season, that we're looking to go in a different direction. I'd rather see Damon moved to full time DH (or Matsui) and try to make a move for someone a little less 1-dimensional.

per Brian Cashman via Pete Abes at LoHud regarding Durazo "Have not signed him."
