Bosox To Get Dye?

Via The Dumplog who quotes the Globe:

...a major league source said a short time ago that chances were “pretty good” that the Red Sox would complete a deal with the Chicago White Sox for outfielder Jermaine Dye.

In exchange for Dye, the White Sox would get Wily Mo Pena and a minor league pitching prospect (not Clay Buchholz or Jon Lester).

It will be interesting to see where the Sox fit Dye into the line-up. Is J.D. Drew that bad? Give the Sox credit if this is a move to sit Drew. I'm not sure the Yankees were ever willing to do that with Abreu or Damon this year.

it's more likely a move to rest Ortiz, who has been hurting all year.

that might be except, in that case, they'd want a lefty bat to spell Ortiz. No, this is basically a vote of no confidence for Drew...who I'm sure the Red Sox will try to ship out during the off-season and pay some of his deal as well.

Wow. If true, that's not going to help Theo's resume.

Of course, Dice-K and Drew have the same agent...one Scott Boras. Might have something to do with it.

Give them credit for admitting their mistake? Sure, OK. But how much credit can you really give them if they have to correct the mistake in the first place with a guy like Dye. After all, didn't you make a case about 6-8 weeks ago that Dye basically sucks except for 2 great years?

Sure, Dye still sucks. Yes, I'm just giving them credit for sitting Drew, if that's what they're doing.
