Big Stein Becomes Big Milk Carton

From Ken Davidoff

More to the point, Steinbrenner has attended exactly one Yankees game this season, the home opener. The Tampa resident didn't even go to nearby Tropicana Field when the Yankees played the Devil Rays.

An insider described Steinbrenner as "sometimes real good, sometimes real bad, but there are more bad moments than there were a year ago. It's not a dramatic drop-off, but the slide is continuing."

The hours remain erratic; as the insider put it, "He's cut back from his cut-back schedule." There is limited social interaction; whereas Steinbrenner used to regularly monitor Legends Field and the minor-league complex, he now gets chauffeured into Legends, quietly goes through the lobby and takes the elevator to his fourth-floor office.

People used to brace for a Steinbrenner interaction. Now, the insider said, "There's no fear factor anymore."

I never thought that I would see the day where Big Stein becomes the Yankeeland version of John Gill. Time, indeed, stands still for no one.

Um Steve, there's a huge difference between becoming a megalomaniac dictator and succumbing to Alzheimers.

Uncalled for.

Compare and contrast the Steinbrenners of the 70's and 80's to the current Steinbrenner. He was a meglomanical dictator that is unfortunately, succumbing to Alzheimers.

~~~there's a huge difference between becoming a megalomaniac dictator and succumbing to Alzheimers. ~~~
First off, there's no proof that Stein has Alzheimers. So, that's a moot point.
Secondly, my compare to Gill was to point out that he's just a figure now for the media...etc...and that there's other forces behind the image/figure that are really calling the shots.
That's all. Sorry that you didn't get it.
I guess that is speculation, isn't it?
I retract my statement, but still stand by the fact that the current version of Stein is nothing like his former self...
