Scott Hatteberg Interest Mean Giambi Done?

The Yankees, looking for a first baseman, have some interest in the Reds' Scott Hatteberg, ESPN.com reported. Hatteberg, 37, is hitting .292.
Hatteberg has some skills at the plate - but, overall, he's just a tad better than league average in terms of production. Sure, in terms of make-up, he's a great guy to have on a team. Yet, why would the Yankees have an interest in a LH-hitting first baseman? This makes me suspect that one of the Giambi, Mientkiewicz, and Damon crowd is expected to be done for the year. Since Damon is not yet on the D.L. and Mientkiewicz is reportedly due back in a month or so, that leaves Giambi.
Hatteberg has replaced Giambi once before...so, he should be used to it.

Hatteberg? Nah, pass. Keep him in Cincy, where he can inflate his numbers.

True, but looking at his H/R splits, there's something to be said about taking advantage of his home park.

The Yankees would be interested in Hatteberg for just 1 reason--his batting average.
Fact, the vast majority of teams would rather have the following set of stats--
6 RCAA, .389 OBA, .436 SLG, .826 OPS, 6.18 RC/G, .534 OWP than
46 RCAA, .413 OBA, .558 SLG, .971 OPS, 8.49 RC/G, .727 OWP
as long as that first player had a .289 AVG, like Hatteberg in 2006, and the second had a .253 AVG, like Giambi in 2006.
And, as far as 2007 performance goes, teams would gladly take
3 RCAA, .377 OBA, .459 SLG, .837 OPS, 6.31 RC/G, .550 OWP over
5 RCAA, .380 OBA, .436 SLG, .816 OPS, 6.51 RC/G, .588 OWP
as long as the first player had a .292 AVG, like Hatteberg, and the second had a .262 AVG, like Giambi. (And, while Hatteberg has a slight edge in SLG and Giambi only has a slight edge in OBA, Cincinnati is the best hitting park in the NL this year, with a park factor of 130).
