Hillenbrand, Again?

The Post says the Yankees have an interest in Shea Hillenbrand.

To update what I said about Shea, last November: There's a reason why Hillenbrand has been on five teams in five years. He's a loser. Pass.

At least the article has George King's byline. I trust a thing that she writes.

I'd prefer Mattingly.

Has Andy Philips gone on someone's blacklist?
How is he not at least as bad a hitter as Hillenbrand while a much better glove. Please
say No, Cash! As bad as Phelps is I will live with him until Mientkiewicz is back.

Cairo is worth his glove. I have completely changed my opinion on the defensive/offensive contributions of the first baseman. If I ever felt before that the big bat and power a first baseman provides is worth a defensive hit then I now feel that with an infield that has jeter/arod/cano that the logical place for a weak hitting bat in the lineup was at first. Minky, for all the scorn he endures over at the banter (and miggy as well) was a powerful addition to the lineup. As someone who watches or listens to almost every game this season, I've just seen/heard too many games won by a great 3-6-3 double play, a great diving stab of a line drive, or a fantastic scoop of an errant throw. I am a believer. Never shows up in the boxscore. And both of them are great teammates, if you believe susan waldman, whom I do.

It all evens out. Minky may win a game with a great 3-6-3 DP, but I'm sure there were plenty of other games he lost because he couldn't get a runner in from 2b or 3b. Or because he couldn't lay down a bunt.

The nature of the game is that given enough time, players will find their true level. Minky & Cairo are at best, defensive replacements. Maybe backup infielders. They shouldn't be starting on a full time basis.

If you can hit and have a suspect glove, a team will find a place to put you. Greg Luzinski lasted 11 years in the NL. If you are a fielding type with no stick, expect to bounce around the league, and between the majors and minors for a good chunk of your career.

Subtraction by addition. I refuse to believe Cashman is this dumb.

This is a smoke screen, feigning interest in one guy to hide how much you want another guy. We almost never hear any accurate trade rumors during the season when it comes to the Yankees it seems, unless someone else heard about David Justice, Bobby Abreu, Jeff Weaver (shudder), etc. before I did.

I definitely look forward to Cashman's upcoming moves though, it should be interesting.

So when has either been starting on a full time basis? Certainly not Cairo. And Minky was filling in because of Giambi's bad foot. Your last sentenc made no sense.
