Good story. Seems that Carl has learned from his parents & their dry cleaning business as he has certainly taken the Yankees to the cleaners.

RBJ - yeah, the fact that Carl is worth $40+ million and that his parents still have to work cleaning other people's clothes tells you something about the boy. If those are my parents, they would never have to work again. Really, you can't throw your folks a million when you have forty to your name?

Steve, we don't know how Pavano spends his $$. Maybe he offered the retirement option to them, and they declined. Maybe the business had been renovated courtesy of him. Maybe his parents didn't want anything from him. Who knows?

They're not peasants working for food, Steve. Owning your own dry-cleaning business can be a fairly lucrative situation (it's not like they're washing them on rocks by hand).
Most people like to work and don't want to retire. The Pavanos probably run their business from afar anyway.
These reporters crack me up, though. Pavano was "surly and miserable" for no apparent reason? Guess what, when Jeter is giving you that blank-eyed bland-speak, he's miserable, too -- but he's too smart to reveal it. Players hate the media. Players like Pavano -- who was trashed before he got here -- hate them even more. Obviously Pavano was never able to not take things personally, and he hated the harsh-spotlight aspect of playing here. And the media hacks like Peter Abraham, Joel Sherman, et al., fed off of that.
It wouldn't shock me if Pavano showed up in the NL in two years and put up respectable numbers. It also wouldn't surprise me if he just retired.
