The Pavano Watch

Carl Pavano has now had his right elbow ligament examined by Dr. Stuart Hershon, Dr. David Altchek, Dr. James Andrews, and Dr. Lewis Yocum. It's been a week since his last exam. There's still no announcement from the Yankees on what's next for him. The fact that this is taking so long tells me that it's not clear if Pavano indeed has a condition that should prevent him from pitching.

The last 24 months have been interesting on the Pavano Watch, huh? But, it's time for it to end. The Yankees need to make a call on this guy and move on.

Maybe they don't want people to think he needs TJS so they can send him and eight million dollars to the Cardinals, where he will work with a real pitching coach, Dave Duncan, who actually turns people around, and go back to being a winning pitcher.

Unless Duncan can do a heart transplant, he ain't going to help Pavano.

I think the team's silence on Pavano means they no longer give a flying you-know-what about Carla. I think they've moved on and couldn't care less if he ever pitches for them or anyone else.

Either that, or Carl Pavano sleeps with the fishes.

Heart has nothing to do with it, he needs an elbow transplant.

If that were true, Raf, why have they not operated yet?

You'll have to ask the doctors. Pavano has had elbow and shoulder issues since his days in the Red Sox organization.

He was hurt in the Red Sox organization
He was hurt in the Expos organization
He was hurt in the Marlins organization
He is currently hurt in the Yankees organization

His "heart" or lack of it has nothing to do with anything.

I agree that it's not an issue of heart. Pavano's been hurt everywhere he's ever been and, for that reason (and no other), should never have been considered for this ballclub. While I understand that other teams were hot for him that does nothing to erase the mistake that was made by even targeting him.

But that's neither here nor there since he's ours now. At this point, I don't think there are any creative solutions. Trade him and cash to someone that doesn't mind charity cases.

(Although I have to respectfully disagree with Bailey: I don't think it's an issue of pitching coaches, the guy just can't stay healthy regardless of who the coach is).

~~~He is currently hurt in the Yankees organization~~~
If true, then, why the wait to go under the knife?
Who knows? If I read the reports right, Pavano wanted to have surgery. Maybe he needs it, maybe he doesn't. Maybe the Yanks are trying to move him. Maybe the player and organization are trying to work something out.
Since we don't have all the facts, we can't really say for sure.
