The Next Mgr After Torre?

Who should it be - when the time comes?

Felipe Alou? Bucky Dent? Rudy Jaramillo? Tony Pena?
Dusty Baker? Tim Foli? Torey Lovullo? Mike Quade?
Don Baylor? Mike Gallego? Jerry Manuel? Buck Showalter?
Larry Bowa? Joe Girardi? Don Mattingly? Joel Skinner?
Brian Butterfield? Mike Hargrove? Hal McRae? Luis Sojo?
Chris Chambliss? Ron Hassey? Ken Oberkfell? Rick Sweet?
Joey Cora? Glenn Hoffman? Jose Oquendo? Jimy Williams?

Someone else?

I would love to see Hassey get some consideration. He's been a scout, a field coordinator, an instructor, a big league bench coach, and a minor league manager...in addition to once working in the front office. He's done it all. Plus, he knows New York.

Who is your first choice?

No Bobby V?

What about Marty Miller? :-)

I would like Bobby V as manager of the Yanks.

Willy Randolph. I don't care, he's the perfect fit. Damn it.

Felipe Alou? NO!

Bucky Dent? Probably not.

Dusty Baker? NO!

Jerry Manuel? What some of you guys deserve. NO!

Buck Showalter? NO! NO! NO!

Larry Bowa? Perhaps.

Joe Girardi? Perhaps.

Don Mattingly? Pehaps.

Bobby Valentine? Probably not. Tough guy but it also seems like he lies to players.

I wouldn't mind Valentine. I could see Mattingly getting the nod, surrounding himself with former ML managers. I could see Girardi getting the nod too.

Def Girardi. Hands down. I don't care if he would clash with the veterans, he's just an intelligent guy who's not afraid to speak his mind. Anyone who can major in industrial engineering from Northwestern AND have the in-game experience of being the general on the field (catcher), in my eyes it is a no brainer.

My biggest fear: Torre gets the axe at year end...and LaRussa does too in St. Lou....and then the Yankees hire LaRussa. That, would make me puke.

The Yanks win it all and Mr. Torre gets a two-year extension.

I'm telling you guys now, you'll miss him when he's not here.

I hope Girardi. But knowing Cashman, it'll be the assistant manager at the New Rochelle CVS.

All I can say is no to Bobby V and no to Don Mattingly.

Bobby V's a friggin' mirror-kissing scumbag. I can't stand that guy.

As for Donnie, I love him, but I just don't see the manager thing from him. I was personally opposed to the Yankee coaching staff becoming a who's who of our favorite heroes. We all have to move on from the great run of the 1990's and the best way to do that is to make a clean break with all of those icons.

Hassey's not a bad suggestion. I like the idea of a guy that's been through all levels of the game but was never a great player himself.

Can't stand Bobby V. His act on BBTN wore out quickly (at least to me) and I can't see a veteran club, used to Joe Torre, getting with Bobby's routine.

Can't see Donnie being manager -- needs more experience.

Howabout Larry Parrish -- current manager of the Toledo Mudhens, guiding them to back to back IL championships despite (especially last year) not having all that great a staff.

Another issue that Cashman could have more aggressively pursued is the matter of developing managerial/coaching talent from within the system. Unless you thing Stump Merrill and Neil Allen would've made you forget Bobby Cox and Leo Mazzone, the paucity of managerial timber in the Yankees system is ludicrous. Although I disagree with much of Zimmer's latest brain fart, Cashman's relative ignorance of this kind of on-field stuff is a critical lack in his skill-set. Where's the 2007 version of Buck Showalter, working his way up the ladder to the show?

I posted this elsewhere. It needs to be someone who is a genius at managing a bullpen. That's it. Let Donnie worry about the media and filling out the lineup. But the next manager needs to know how to not burn out bullpen arms, like they grew on trees.

Joe Kerrigan, with Mattingly handling the media and "offensive coordinator" responsibilities. Make it a hybrid position.

Shit, keep Torre but put someone else in charge of pitching changes.

Billy Masse? Oh, wait, never mind.

Larry Bowa would make a fine manager. Would like prefer to see Bowa than some "safe" choice such as LaRussa who I used to like more than I do now.

Ron Hassey is intriguing based on his experience at many levels,
