Cashman Not Sure If Giambi Got 2nd Opinion
From The Post -
Asked if Jason Giambi was examined at the Kerlin Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in L.A. yesterday, Cashman said he didn’t know if that was true. Giambi, who is battling a painful bone spur on the bottom of his left side, didn’t accompany the team to Chicago from Seattle Sunday. “He saw Dr. (William) Hamilton (last Thursday) and he was happy with that,” Cashman said of the designated hitter, who limped noticeably running out ground balls Sunday. Giambi, who is hitless in his last 18 at-bats, didn’t rule out a cortisone shot to help reduce the discomfort in the heel area.
I guess it's not just Joe who is clueless.

Horrors! A player, on his day off, might have gone to see a doctor and when asked if he was aware of it Cashman had the hubris to say he wasn't aware of it.
Do you think Cashman knows and is lying or are you faulting Cashman for not knowing (if the reporting is correct)what his player does on his day off?
If it's the latter, should Cashman know what every player does on an off day? Other than Cashman what other team officials should know what every player is doing on an off day?

Rich - I think, if a player is injured *that badly* that he chooses to seek expert medical opinion, above what the team has provided, that the GM should have his finger on the pulse of that player's concerns - and his desire to seek another opinion...especially when you have as much money tied up on the player as the Yankees do with Giambi.
It's called being aware of what's happening with your players. I'm pretty sure that's on a G.M.'s job description.

Which is why Pavano has gotten a 4th opinion on his elbow.
Anyway, signals could've gotten crossed between Giambi & Cashman, or Giambi could've gone around Cashman's back, or Cashman could be playing coy. Who knows?

FWIW, all you ever hear from the media is that Cashman does not lie. So, if he says he has no idea, I believe it.
