Missed By *That* Much!
News on the strong-armed Seth Fortenberry, via The Post and Courier with a hat tip to Baseball America's Prospects Blog -
Seth Fortenberry was a double away from earning $500 and a gold watch from the New York Yankees.
Instead, Fortenberry had to settle for a 4-for-4 night, which included a home run to lead the undefeated Charleston RiverDogs over the Asheville Tourists 7-4 before a crowd of 2,733 at Riley Park on Monday night.
Fortenberry tripled, homered and singled in his first three plate appearances, but singled in his last at-bat to miss out on the cycle by a double.
"It was a little tense coming into the final at-bat," said the 23-year Fortenberry. "Everybody had to remind me about it, and they had brought in a lefty. I was just trying to put something into play and I poked one into left field.
"Four-for-4 is not bad and I'll take that every day of the year. It feels great and it's a good way to start the series."
Fortenberry brought a .167 average into the game with just two hits in 12 at-bats. He ended the game at .375 and was caught stealing twice, following each single.
"The last few days hadn't gone too well," Fortenberry said. "Coming into the game, I asked Torre (Tyson, the RiverDogs manager) how to approach a knuckleball guy and he told me to keep hitting like I did in BP (batting practice) and it ended up working out."
I'm rooting for this guy - just because I like his name. Maybe we can call him Lord Fortenberry when he makes the show? It just sounds right.

Just as long as he doesn't wind up like that other 'berry who played in NY a few years ago.
