Not So Suave Spring

Rico Bergman.

He's 1 for 22 this spring, to date, with the one hit being a single. That's an average of .045 - yeah, oh-forty-five.

For what it's worth, sure, spring training stats are misleading. That's the rule - in most cases. However, when you're 33-years old and coming off back surgery (performed seven months ago) to correct a herniated disk that was causing numbness in your right leg, the numbers do tend to mean a little something - when they are that bad.

Are the Yankees concerned about this? They should be - unless they figure that they have to keep Rico for Alex.

Heck, if the Yankees are willing to carry no-stick whatsoever at first, then they should have just given the job to Andy Phillips and then they would have an extra roster spot to play with (instead of keeping Rico).

Yep, never should've signed him.

FWIW, if I remember correctly, A-Rod would always warm up outside the dugout with Andy Phillips before home games last year - at least the ones that I attended - .

A-Rod and Andy are close - but, A-Rod and Rico go back something like 15 years.
