Hanging Chad Question
Triple Steal thinks the Red Sox have the second worst bullpen (this season) in the A.L. East - with the Yankees having the best.
This leads to a question for me. It's been rumored for months that the Red Sox would like to trade for the Nationals' Chad Cordero. If this is true, should the Yankees try and get in on the action to either run up the price or block Boston?
Sure, the pen in the Bronx is deep now. And, Chad Cordero is perhaps a tad over-rated - meaning that he's nice, but, he's not the next Mariano Rivera. Still, think of the Boston reaction if the Yankees did get Cordero. That alone may make it worth the effort and price.

It would really depend on the price, but if grabbing Cordero would force the Sox to go get someone else, say Armando Benitez, it might really be worth it.

Maybe it's me, but I don't see Cordero being that much of a difference maker. Besides, the Sox may wind up getting someone better or they may have one of their guys step up, or they may have someone come out of the blue, like Bobby Jenks did. Baseball's a funny game like that.

Getting someone just so someone else doesn't get him only works well if you're not selling the farm to make the potential block. And given a) how much the Nationals need and b) the joy teams get from pulling teeth from the Yanks, I don't see what the hell we'd do with Cordero, especially at the cost I'm sure it would take. Plus, isn't Boston interested in Brad Lidge anyway?
