Coming Soon: Bambi Burgers At Wally's World?

From NRN Foodservice Blog -

When spring training opened for the Yankees, hardcore fans almost sprained a tonsil in rooting for Bernie Williams to be put on the roster for a 26th year. Only the truly fanatical fans held back, knowing his retirement could mean having dinner with the legendary pin-striper—in his very own place, no less.

Williams has yet to utter a word publicly, but industry insiders say the Bomber and his wife plan to open a restaurant if Bernie decides the 2006 baseball season was his last as a player (he was offered a minor-league contract by the Yanks but declined, maintaining his class to the end.) Waleska, known as Wally, would be the back-of-the-house talent, using the culinary skills she fire-hardened during her recent schooling at the Culinary Institute of America.

Remember that scene from North Dallas Forty, where Phil Elliott had a reaction to Jo Bob Priddy's mention that he was going to open a place to eat? It went like this:

[Phil to Jo Bob] "I can see it now: Jo...Bob's...Fine...Foods......Eat here, or I'll kill ya!"

Somehow, I think Bernie's pitch will be more like "Bernie's Place....Eat here, or I'll make you listen to acoustic jazz guitar solos."

Steve, glad to see you back in full posting force. I don't always agree with you, but that's what blogs are for. I appreciate the thought you put into every post. Keep up the good work.

Steve -

I have spent a lot of time working in DC in politics and the first thing you learn is that unhappy people make the most noise. That can lead to a (to paraphrase Bush) misunderestimation of public sentiment. I am very glad that you have decided to keep posting, as waswatching is the first place I go in the morning. Keep up the great work and we will all keep reading.

Best,

Mike

just because you hate a-rod and i don't doesn't mean that what you say isn't important. as a student in any facet of life, i almost prefer to read opposing veiwpoints on some topics, otherwise i would never learn about things that i don't think. with that said, i read dozens of yankee blogs every day, and you are my first stop daily.

That would be a cool idea if the Williams follow through with it. I love the idea of family owned businesses.

Rivera has a steakhouse in New Rochelle, it would be neat if the Williams open up a jazz supper club, or something along those lines.

All - thanks for the kind words on my decision. It's all very appreciated. Many, many, thanks!

TurnTwo - Nope. I got stuck in it. It took me 2 and a 1/2 hours to drive 45 miles this AM. Yup, that's a pace of 18 MPH for the whole trip. Not fun. I hear you.

Steve,
even though I hate the A-Rod negativity, I'm glad your posting -- you do do good analysis.

Bernie Burgers? Is it going to be near Derek Jeter's Taco Hole?

I used to live in Poughkeepsie -- would drive past the CIA nearly everyday -- it didn't have the best reputation as a place to eat, but I've eaten what some of the graduates made and the food was pretty good.
