A-Rod & Myers Team Up With Phils Moyer To Help Kids

From BusinessWire -

All-Star MLB pitcher Jamie Moyer and wife Karen, co-founders of The Moyer Foundation, announce campaign to put Camp Erins - camps for children ages 6 to 17 grieving the loss of a loved one - in every major league baseball city. This aggressive expansion was inspired by the success of eight Camp Erins currently offered in six states - three existing in MLB cities: Seattle, Phoenix and Philadelphia.

To date, MLB wives advocating for Camp Erin in their city are: Shonda Schilling (Curt Schilling of Boston Red Sox); Karen Varitek (Jason Varitek of Boston Red Sox); Kristin Mirabelli (Doug Mirabelli of Boston Red Sox); Dawn Timlin (Mike Timlin of Boston Red Sox); Sarah Wood (Chicago Cubs Kerry Wood); Karra Hall (Toby Hall of Chicago White Sox); Lucienne Cormier (Rheal Cormier of Cincinnati Reds); Lisa Guardado (Eddie Guardado of Cincinnati Reds); Cynthia Rodriguez (Alex Rodriguez of New York Yankees); Robyn Myers (Mike Myers of New York Yankees); Alex Chavez (Eric Chavez of Oakland A’s); Tracy Hoffman (Trevor Hoffman of San Diego Padres); and Blessings Winn (Randy Winn of San Francisco Giants).

“As the Foundation expands Camp Erin, we have the opportunity to reach out to communities nationwide - and to work with players, organizations, businesses and individuals in all of the MLB cities to help bring Camp Erin to more kids who are grieving the loss of a loved one,” said Jamie Moyer. “It’s a great opportunity for communities all over to embrace a service needed to help children.”

A recent U.S. census estimated that 1 in 20 children, more than 1.4 million nationwide, will experience the death of a parent by the time they graduate from high school. Research indicates these children are at a much greater risk for depression, suicide, poverty and substance abuse. The Moyer Foundation’s Camp Erins serve about 450 children per summer and are growing exponentially.

This is wonderful for the kids.

I hope someone on the Yankees picks this up should Mike Myers and A-Rod leave town after this season.
