Yankees Spring Training with Michael Geffner

Michael Geffner of the Times Herald-Record is with the Yankees in Tampa and will update his blog several times a day with observations, news, etc.

Here's what he had to say this morning:

I arrived at Yankees camp this morning around 8, got into the clubhouse at the opening dong of 9, and, to my amazement, not a single player showed up by 10:15 AM. Joe Torre was in his manager’s office. GM Brian Cashman made a quick in-and-out appearance–but in the off-limits areas. Not even so much as an Andy Phillips was there. Where was everybody? So I headed off to the minor-league facility across the highway. I heard there might be some players there. There was–Jorge Posada, Miguel Cairo, Kevin Reese, and Kevin Thompson taking BP; Kei Igawa was throwing on another field and later gave a press conference through his interpretor. Now I’m going back to Legends Field to see if anybody’s there.

I was at Legends Field around noon when the rain began, along with thunder and lightning. This continued for awhile and had been forecast. I went to the gift store, looked around, and left.

Better the rain in Tampa than the snow/sleet of NY/NJ on a day like today!

Well I just spent an hour & a half digging out from the storm here in Toledo. And I really only have a 40' driveway & 40' sidewalk-- not a lot, but about 14" of snow.
