Speaking From The Heart
Since it's Valentine's Day, let's talk about love.
One of the things that I love to see when watching the Yankees is to see one of our boys in the batter's box, really working the pitcher, and then smacking the ball hard for a hit.
Since they keep data at The Hardball Times on things like Pitches Per Plate Appearance (P/PA), Line Drive Percentage (LD%) and Batting Average on Balls In Play (BA/BIP), I thought it would be fun, albeit not scientific, to come up with a "Love 'em" rating - where P/PA, LD% and BA/BIP are multiplied together. Here are the "Love 'em" leaders on the 2006 Yankees:

Bobby Abreu, the roses are on their way. Keep up the great work this season and maybe I'll add a box of chocolates to the flowers next Valentine's Day.
Miggy Cairo, you (?), well, you've got some work to do before I start getting all hot and bothered over your plate appearances.
