Torre Helps Pitch New Book
"Yankees Essential: Everything You Need to Know to Be a Real Fan!" is to be released on March 30, 2007. In the forward, Joe Torre "writes" -
"This book gives you a slightly different spin on Yankees history. You will relive many memorable moments, ones that have become familiar throughout the years, but this book gives you a little more insight into those moments and memories."
The author of this book is Howie Karpin - who works as an Official Scorekeeper at the Stadium.
According to Eric Wilbur, Karpin sounds like a Yankees fan:
Yankees official scorer Howie Karpin is about as obnoxious as…well, you try creating a simile for obnoxious and Yankee that’s going to be more effective and give me a call. When New York plated four runs off Curt Schilling in the third inning, I could swear he was going to burst a brain vessel. Think John Sterling calling the final out of a Yankee win, then imagine it after every single hit, sacrifice, or error. “Two base hit! RBI!” All that’s missing are the streamers and noisemakers. You should have heard him after Jason Varitek’s two-run homer. Sounded like his cat had just been murdered by someone in the Boston press corps. ..
This could be a fun book to read. It will probably be better than reading Mel's story (also due out this year).

You know, I think maybe when I retire (in 50 or so years, but still), I think my perfect job would be Official Scorer. That is, if they haven't replaced them with robots and laser verified strike zones...

It does seem like the coolest job ever.

Hey Japedo, great minds think alike. Look up 2 posts.
EJ, are you going to get profiles on the pitchers from the trades. i really want to see Jackson's and Ohlendorf's. I think this trade is giong to be steal.
Jackson supposedly has killer stuff and dominated AA last year. All who think T Clip is a good prospedct should be extremely high on Jackson and he seemed to adapt just fine to his new delivery.
Gonzales has a great glove and should hit enaugh to be at least a utility guy.
We have seen stufrf on ohlendorf and if he can contriol the lefties next season (changeup?) he could be Wang.
Aaaand we got a ML set up man who killed lefties. Any-one who is down on this trade has to evaluate it a little better. Still TINSTAPP, but I for one think Cash did a good job.
Sorry to repost but what do you think of the trade now
