Pavano Thinks He's Robert Newhouse
From Pete Abe via TJN -
Carl Pavano spent much of the winter working with a personal trainer in Arizona, but he bailed out of several drills late in the workout complaining of "heavy legs," according to Yankees manager Joe Torre.
Pavano still is scheduled to throw his bullpen session today.
I wonder if Pavano realizes that some men find heavy legs on a woman to be unattractive?

Are you calling Pavano a woman, Steve? Because I am.

Yeah Steve, if you're insulting Pavano by calling him a woman, that ain't cool.

I'd lay off of him for a bit. I don't think this is much different from a pitcher having a "dead arm."
Probably is an indictment of his personal trainer, but I'll wait & see.

Pavano said he had not run outside much at all while working out in Arizona. Running on a treadmill (or using an elliptical machine) is a lot different than running on grass outside. It stresses your legs more and (for me, anyway) strains the hamstrings more. So when they say he has "heavy legs," they probably mean he's cramping.

redbug, Jen - sorry about that. Usually Carla nails on that bad habit of mine.
Sorry ladies!

Dude said he was in the best shape of his life less than a week ago. Not a good sign, but it does no good to pile on now. Plus, every player gets sore legs the first week or so of camp. What matters is how they deal with it and how long it takes to get to full strength once the initial soreness wears off. Let's just wait to see if Nancy Pavano is healthy and ready to start on opening day. I don't know any trainer that advises runs wind sprints on a treadmill. Too dangerous and not the same effect. I'm guessing his legs are sore because of the on-field wind sprints, agility drills, and field drills. I would have thought the whole point of getting fit in Az. was so the good weather would allow him to workout outside. I saw Cairo ~ a month ago working out in Clearwater. Running on the grass. Over and over and over.

This heavy legs bs is definitely distubing. Think about it: Pavano's going into spring training as someone who has something to prove. He's laughed at in the clubhouse, on the field, in the papers, in the stands and in baseball in general. He knows what he's up against. If you were in a position such as that do you think, even if you really had a physical complaint, that you'd be so public about it. In that situation you either step up or fall apart...methinks spring training is gonna be all about Carl...

Could've been the reason he tried pitching with cracked ribs...

good point... but then again, I wouldn't be surprised if his buddy with a bat was $10,000 richer...

Well, he was able to throw his bullpen. No harm, no foul.
