Now That SB-XLI Is In The Books....
I think Vegas should establish the under/over line at 19...
...for the number of days during this Spring Training that Alex Rodriguez is asked, at least once in a day, about fellow record-breaker and future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning finally getting a world championship ring.
Between "The Pride and The Pressure," the chance that he may opt out of his contract, and now the Manning thing, it might be a good time for Alex to start saying "no thanks" to interview requests until the season starts.

Maybe he'll stop answering questions completely.
Marvin Harrison barely has two words to say to the media, and he's one of the greatest receivers of our generations. Perhaps the "greatest baseball player" of our generation could keep his mouth shut as well.
Unfortunately, that keeping the mouth shut job has already been filled by the captain. Maybe a little role reversal is necessary?

The Captain doesn't keep his mouth shut; he's always there for a quote. Jeter has just mastered "say everything while saying nothing." No matter how hard they press, Jeter will only regurgitate cliches and bland nonsense. He doesn't care. He's smarter than A-Rod -- he knows how to manipulate and evade the press. A-Rod hasn't figured out how to just play along with them.
Steve, being honest, doesn't it make you feel good that Peyton won his ring? Everyone said Peyton was A-Rod and Brady was Jeter. Well, now Peyton has his ring -- so it can't hurt A-Rod, or his psyche, going into the season.

Are the Yankees playing Rex Grossman in the World Series this year? That could help A-Rod too.

I don't think he ever will. I half-expect him to write a letter to the YES network like Greg Jeffries did with FAN a number of years back.
Personally, I think the damage is done; he'll never have people on his "side," at least not in NY. So now, all he has to do is shut up and play ball. Don't think it's gonna happen, tho'

A-Rod overthinks EVERYTHING. Are you telling me that when Peyton won his ring -- and his MVP award -- A-Rod wasn't thinking about himself? A-Rod seems somewhat mentally fragile, and he certainly examines every aspect of every situation, and I think seeing another maligned superstar, who everyone said couldn't win the big one, hold up a championship trophy is good for A-Rod's psyche.

It would be a shame if this adds more pressure to his plate. But, it would not shock me if it did too.

I don't know, I wasn't there; I lost my invite to A-Rod's SB party... Just as well, married with a young child makes for a dull party anyway.

A-Rod and Manning have been linked since the Colts blew it against the Steelers in the playoffs. "Manning and A-Rod are so great in the regular season, but they Can't Win 'The Big Game.'" A million copies sold.
I don't think it's much of a reach that A-Rod is aware of the connection, sympathized with Manning, and that the thought entered his head, "He did it, now I will do it."
If we don't attempt to enter their minds from afar, and predict their thoughts and emotions, we would be severely limited on blogs.
