Jorge Has Leverage In His Own Backyard

Paul Lo Duca, the Mets starting catcher, is a free agent after this season. Mets G.M. Omar Minaya has a thing for Latin ballplayers. (He says that he does not, but, the facts say otherwise.) Jorge Posada was born in Puerto Rico. Mets manager Willie Randolph knows Posada as well. Hmmmmm....

This is just another reason why free agent to be Jorge Posada is sitting in the catbird seat after this season.

If, this time next year, we'll looking at Mo Rivera with the Red Sox and Jorge Posada with the Mets, how will that sit with Yankees fans? Think Derek Jeter is going to feel warm and fuzzy about that as well?

Cashman is either going to earn his pay next winter - or have to start practicing to work with Steve Phillips on ESPN.

If Cashman lets either Mo or Jorge go (barring essentially career ending injuries) then he'd be a bad GM. Both gone? Worst. GM. Ever.

I don't think swapping Posada for Lo Duca is an even trade.
