25 Months Left, To....

...go from this...

...to this...

Is it just me, or, does it seem like they should have made more progress on the new Stadium site over the last six months?

Man, that's alotta ground to cover. They better pick up the pace. I wonder if MLB will have the Yankees have an extended road trip to start the 2009 season if they need some extra time?

No worries, 25 months is an eternity in the construction business. You'd be surprised at how fast a building can go up when it needs to.

Sorry to talk about something so off-topic, but...

Keith Foulke retired. This guy went from the highest of highs in '04 (the Yankees could not touch this little bastard) to the lowest of lows. He went from being one of the main cogs in "Breaking the Curse" to getting booed out of Fenway and retiring. It's amazing how fragile ballplayers are. Foulke had some injury issues, but it reminds me a lot of how Knobby basically had a mental breakdown and could never recover.

Without Foulke, there is no ring in '04 for the Sox - no question in my mind. I have to wonder how much the '04 LCS, and his workload in it, led to his downfall.

That's a good question. He pitched a good number of innings in 2003-04 with both the A's & the Sox.

Seems that both his knees were gone, and he was having elbow problems to boot.

I wonder how much his motion factored into his elbow problems? Ken Hill had a similar "short arm" motion, and he had elbow problems too...

The success of closers, and bullpen guys in general can be fleeting sometimes.

Why can't they play in Yankee Stadium, if the new park isn't finished in time?

Just took a glance to see what Foulke's numbers were against the Yankees in the '04 ALCS. He pitched six innings and gave up only one hit and struck out six, but also walked six.

So the only hit the Yankees had against him the whole series was that unlucky-bounce ground-rule double by Tony Clark that almost won the Yankees the game and probably would have kept the Curse intact? Wow.

Setting the foundation to build is the slowest part of the construction.

Once they are ready to build up, it will be extremely quick.

It's supposed to be leveled, no?

Eventually.

But if they see things aren't going as fast as planned, I see no reason they can't put off demolishing Yankee Stadium.

The previous three words felt pretty weird to type...

I bet the start to gut the place and sell stuff off starting in October 2008 - and that will preclude any big league games there after that.

I have this dream that they offer season ticket holders they're seats (for a fee of course). But I have a feeling that Steiner Sports will get their grubby little hands on everything.

No doubt about it.

I doubt that the New Stadium won't be finished in time, but if it isn't, I don't see why a contingency plan temporarily preserving Yankee Stadium wouldn't be implemented.

Anyway, it seems it takes a while before a stadium is leveled after a team leaves; I can only think of Busch as an "immediate" demolition, and that was because it literally stood in the way of completion of the new Busch Stadium
