Wanna Bet?

I wonder if Vegas will establish an under/over line for the amount of times this season Alex Rodriguez, when speaking to the media, will reference David Beckham's new five-year, $250 million, contract?

Isn't soccer ostensibly the pre-game warm-up before the stadium riot?

Soccer? Soccer? I didn't think that there was $250 million total in MLS. How is the LA Galaxy (or whatever) going to come up with this kind of dough?

No problem, they'll just trade him to the Yankees once they realize they can't win with him on the payroll.

LOL Steve. Maybe we can give them the mysterious "Carl Pavano" back.

Just to clarify a bit, the $250 million isn't a guarantee, it's an estimate. His annual salary will be $10m.

The way it works in MLS is that each team has a salary cap of about $1.2m (last I looked anyways). The league itself foots the bill for players salaries. (MLS is a single entity league, meaning that the league owns and pays for the players' contracts, not the individual clubs.) With the new designated player rule (where clubs can sign marquee players without the bulk of the contract counting against the cap) MLS will pay up to $400,000 of the annual salary. The Galaxy ownership (AEG) will pay the rest of the $10m/year. In addition to Becks salary he also has agreements with existing sponsorships, and he'll get a share of the club's profits and shirt sales.

Wao., to be honest with you.. It is still alot of loot for a freaking soccer player. I know its huge almost everywhere outside the US. BUT here Baseball and Football dominate.

GOOD for him., and good for AROD, he's not alone NOW.

Yeah, well, ya gotta spend money to make money, right? In order for MLS to grow they need to attract some marquee players from Europe. And the only way to lure them here is with a lucrative deal.
